Shell (formerly known as Royal Dutch Shell) is an energy company specializing in the exploration, production, refining, and marketing of oil and natural gas and the manufacturing and marketing of chemicals. It operates through six segments: Integrated Gas, Upstream, Marketing, Chemicals and Products, Renewables and Energy Solutions, and Corporate. The Integrated Gas segment includes liquefied natural gas, conversion of natural gas into gas-to-liquids fuels, natural gas and liquids exploration and extraction, etc. The Upstream segment focuses on the exploration and extraction of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids, marketing and transportation of oil and gas, and other activities. The Marketing segment offers electric vehicle charging services, lubricants for road transport, and machinery used in manufacturing, mining, power generation, agriculture and construction, low-carbon energy solutions, etc. The Chemicals and Products segment comprises chemicals manufacturing plants and refineries, as well as the pipeline business, trading of crude oil, oil products and petrochemicals, and oil sands activities. The Renewables and Energy Solutions segment specializes in the electricity generation, marketing and trading of power and pipeline gas, digitally enabled customer solutions, production and supply of decarbonized hydrogen, development of commercial carbon capture and storage hubs, etc. The Corporate segment covers the non-operating activities, comprising holdings and treasury organization, self-insurance activities, and headquarters and central functions.
